Our Chai

We blend and brew Chico Chai from scratch, by hand, in small batches. Our chai concentrate is brewed fresh, complex with spices and has a nice balance of spicy and sweet. Our loose leaf chai is fully customizable for the perfect cup of chai in your own kitchen. We're committed to making and brewing chai with honor and respect to its South Asian origins and traditions, which means we're constantly researching and learning as a part of our process.

    DIY Chai Concentrate

    It's getting warm out, bring on iced chai season!

    Our Chai Concentrate makes the perfect iced treat to go, so we want to make sure you have access to it as the days get warmer. Our bottled chai concentrate can be found in multiple Northern California locations (check 'Find our Chai' menu), but for those of you who may be out of reach, don't worry, we've got you.

    Here's our recipe for DIY chai concentrate - now you can make it from your kitchen at home!

    1.25 quarts water
    1/3 cup loose leaf Chico Chai (Original, Red, Chocolate or Turmeric) 
    1/4 cup sugar

    Boil water in a pot on the stove. Add chai and simmer, covered for 30 minutes. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Pour through a strainer into a heat-safe vessel (a one quart canning jar works great). Chill down vessel of chai by placing in an ice bath or cool water bath if possible. Store in fridge and keep for 1-2 weeks.
    Mix your concentrate - 60% chai to 40% milk/unmilk and heat or pour over ice as desired.
